What does the Market Entry Radar assess?

Formation trends

We compare how many companies were formed in the last 12 months versus the prior 12 months to determine whether the sector is growing, stable, or contracting.

Market maturity

Derived from the median age of active companies. Emerging markets have young companies and high opportunity; established markets have entrenched players and higher barriers to entry.

Dissolution rate

The percentage of all companies in the sector that have dissolved. A high dissolution rate signals intense competition or challenging trading conditions — a key risk indicator for new entrants.

Radar Score

A composite 0–100 score combining growth trend, dissolution rate, formation volume, and market size. Higher is more attractive. Scores of 75+ are "Attractive"; below 25 is "Saturated".

Top companies

The 10 most recently incorporated active companies in the sector with filed accounts, showing turnover and employees — useful for benchmarking your business plan.

Data source

All data is sourced from Companies House bulk data covering 5.7 million UK companies, plus iXBRL-parsed financial accounts. Select a sector above to get started.
